FOR INSTRUCTOR POSITIONS
Title: Instructor
Function: Outdoor Education And Operations Of Programs For Trails Wilderness
School To Students Of All Ages.
Department: Operations
Reports to: Director
Coordinates with: Other Instructors, Wizard, Chameleons, Drover, LIT And
Director.
Schedule: Summer 2003. Temporary Position.
Summary
Instructors and Chameleons will prepare and teach sessions during staff
training, which may be assigned. Staff participate in activities that
prepare all areas of the school for a successful summer season. At the
close of the summer the instructors will assist in shutting down the summer
facilities. Instructors are responsible for the safety, health and welfare
of all students on their assigned course for its duration. Instructors
are directly responsible for operating the programs of Trails Wilderness
School in full.
Responsibilities
Overseeing, managing and maintaining assigned groups during their course
experience at Trails Wilderness School.
Public Relations - Maintaining a positive image in and re-educating our
customers about our camp and it's message.
Measurables
The scores on evaluations by the students, other staff, guide services
and directors.
Maintain the budget as set for the program by the directors.

Trails Wilderness School experience.
Public speaking experience and skills with both youth and adults
Telephone skills.
Ability to set and keep appointments
Ability to write and communicate punctual and well-thought-out reports.
Ability to establish rapport with youth and adults.
Self-starter and finisher.
Collegial, mature and well organized.
Sense of humor, positive attitude and ability to deal effectively with
frustration.
Ability to work without direct supervision.
Sense of and experience with community development in small groups.
Significant outdoor experience; specifically in a given outdoor travel
skill we teach.
Goals of
the Instructor include:
1. Operate safe and fun wilderness programs as assigned by the directors.
2. Increase the cumulative scores on your Instructor evaluations by the
students and other staff.
3. Maintain the budget as set for the program by the directors.
Objectives
of the Instructor include:
Move Trails Wilderness School toward its stated objectives and goals including:
Providing a physically and mentally safe and supportive environment for
education, cooperation and fun in the outdoors.
Utilizing wilderness travel activities to foster individual growth.
Directly involve individuals in activities to encourage self-confidence,
responsibility, and leadership.
Increase the quality of all Trails Wilderness School programs.
Maintain and increase accountability of staff and students to individual
program objectives.
Aid students in obtaining their individual objectives and goals.
Follow the mission statement of Trails Wilderness School.
Instructor
Tasks and Projects Include
Follow guidelines set forth by the directors to maintain ACA accreditation.
Leading and instruct trips depending on course assignment.
Providing liaison services between the school and subcontractor guide
services depending on course assignment.
Acquiring specifically requested images during the program.
Maintain expense record and following established budget.
Maintain equipment, campground and storage; coordination of instructor
maintenance of site.
Complete assigned paperwork, including but not limited to: Course Logs,
Vehicle Maintenance Logs, Student Evaluations, and Equipment Safety Checklist
in a timely legible manner.
Drive vehicles both with and without students and other staff in a safe
and prudent manner. Check vans regularly as set forth by ACA standards.
Keep vans picked-up.
Maintain consistent, constructive and clear communications with both fellow
staff members and directors.
Uphold guidelines, policies and procedures as set forth by Trails Wilderness
School. It is the obligation of all instructors to report any and all
infractions to the directors.
Maintain schedules, deadlines, and meetings in a timely and efficient
manner.
Participate in meal planning and preparation.
Attend and participate in a positive manner in all staff meetings where
possible.
Provide the students with consistent, positive, meaningful leadership.

FOR WIZARD (LOGISTICS) POSITION
Title: Wizard
Function: Outdoor Education and Operations Support of Programs for Trails
Wilderness School.
Department: Operations
Reports to: Director present
Coordinates with: Program Director, Instructors, Chameleons, Drover, LIT
and Directors.
Schedule: Summer 2003, Temporary Position.
Summary
Wizards will operate the facility in Wyoming at Trails Wilderness School's
Kelly operations base as directed by the Directors. The Wizard will order
and prepare food, repair and inventory gear, operate re-supplies and drop
off and pick ups for groups in a timely manner. Wizards prepare and teach
sessions during staff training, which may be assigned. Wizards participate
in activities that prepare all areas of the school for a successful summer
season. At the close of the summer the Wizards will assist in shutting
down the summer facilities. Wizards are responsible for the safety, health
and welfare of all students during the summer. Wizards are directly responsible
for operating and maintaining the facility and groups interaction with
the facility of the programs of Trails Wilderness School.
Responsibilities
Maintaining food and gear to appropriate levels of use for the summer.
Occasionally cooking meals for campers. Vehicle upkeep and maintenance.
Group management during their stay at the facility. Public Relations -
Maintaining a positive image in and re-educating our customers about our
camp and it's message.

Daily obtaining and distributing the mail.
Provide the students with consistent, positive, meaningful leadership.
